Andrew Biraj is a globally recognized photojournalist and Visuals Editor at HIAS, based in Washington, D.C. With over 20 years of experience, Andrew has worked with renowned international agencies such as Reuters, Sipa Press USA, and Getty Images.

Andrew’s work has earned prestigious accolades, including the World Press Photo Award, National Geographic Honorable Mention, and multiple awards from the National Press Photographers Association and Pictures of the Year International (POYi). His compelling visual stories have been published in National Geographic, The New York Times, Time Magazine, The Washington Post, and many other leading publications worldwide.

Andrew’s photography has been showcased in exhibitions and festivals across the globe, including Visa Pour l'Image in France, Angkor Photo Festival in Cambodia, and the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts in Japan. He has also played a significant role as a juror, nominator, and mentor in prestigious photography competitions, including the South Asian Journalist Association Awards and UNICEF Photographer of the Year.

As a co-founder of Counter Foto in Bangladesh, Andrew has contributed to nurturing the next generation of visual storytellers. He is the author of INSIGHT and Bonded Stitches & Struggle; Testimony of Life in Bangladesh’s Garment Industry.
